March in the PRIDE Northshore Parade!

WHY ARE WE HAVING A PRIDE PARADE?

In the past 2 years, the LGBTQ+ community has been under heavy attack in Louisiana. Here on the Northshore, extremist groups succeeded in having Pride displays removed from our libraries, a billboard made by a local trans teen was burned down, and hundreds of calls are being made to remove LGBTQ+ books from our libraries. In our state legislature, Republican lawmakers continue to push through bills supporting the erasure of queer and trans identities from our communities.

Our nonprofit, Queer Northshore, is launching PRIDE Northshore as a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies, and to push back on anti-LGBTQ+ agendas and legislation by publicly advocating for diversity and equality with an inclusive and family-friendly PRIDE parade.

To that end we would like to officially invite you to participate in our first annual PRIDE parade on June 1st from 5-6pm. The location will be in St. Tammany but the city is TBD. Afterparty to follow.

CAN GROUPS PARTICIPATE?

If you would like to participate as a group, please have your members acquire tickets individually. We ask that you have a walking banner featuring your group’s name (this doesn’t have to be fancy and can be homemade), and that you reach out to us at info@queernorthshore.org to tell us the name of your group so we can include you in our media kit and promotions. Otherwise, you are welcome to join Queer Northshore’s general group.

WHAT DO THE FUNDS GO TOWARDS?

The price to participate is “pay what you can.” 100% of proceeds will go towards PRIDE programming for the month of June including police details, EMS, decorations, permits and clean up crews for the parade, a large billboard in Covington on HWY 190 featuring a “Happy PRIDE” message, and all costs associated with the Ponchatoula PRIDE Party at Twin Steeples. Estimated costs: $15k

PARADE ATTIRE:

While this is a free speech event, this is a family friendly event and there will be children present. Feel free to wear expressive, colorful clothing but please keep all attire family friendly.
