Meet John McNabb

John (he/they), is the pansexual owner of McNabb games in his home town of Bogalusa. He creates his own games, fantasy-themed art and instrumental ambient music for a living and even has his own publishing company! Agreeing to be highlighted in our membership spotlight wasn’t an easy decision for John. He’s known since he was a young man that he was attracted to all gender expressions but he grew up in an ultra conservative physically and emotionally abusive Baptist/Pentecostal family where it was not safe to be openly queer. In fact, he didn’t decide to come out until 3 years ago when he became friends with a trans man whose courage to be out publicly in his rural community showed John “that the world doesn’t get any better if we don’t lead by example.” Six months later John came out to his wife and kids and since then his life has felt more fulfilling. He’s really happy that he has friends and family who he can be his true self with.  Even though he fears for his own physical safety he wanted to do a membership spotlight to be a positive example for his children. At the same time he worries about being so public that his kids are ostracized in their community. I think this is something that many of us queer parents can relate to, I know I do.

Thank you John for being an example to your kids as well as ours. You are incredibly brave.

Check out John’s game store for the largest showcase of comics, collectibles, cards, toys and games on the northshore. You can find him online here or better yet, go say hi to him in person at 1200 Harrison street in Bogalusa.

McNabb games strives to be a safe space for everyone so rest assured that all are welcome.
